The 1997 Biathlon was held at The Resort at Squaw Creek on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. The Biathlon is the real test, with the law enforcement officers using his or her own service weapon and professional shooting skills under stress and aerobic conditions. This even was 1k on an intermediate loop. There were three shooting positions: standing; kneeling; and prone with six shots, bull's-eye target; at a forty foot distance. Starting at 30 second intervals, the skier does a 1k loop, returns to start, fires position one, then continues until three firing stations and 4k's are completed. Time penalties for missd shots.
